Cascades of Doubt - Hamlet

Helsingor, the danish capital, in the 10th century: The king - his name remains unknown - is dead, murdered by his brother Claudius who has become the new king by marrying queen Gertrude, his sister-in-law. At least this is what Hamlet, the young prince, is told by someone who claims to be his father's ghost and who pushes him to take revenge. Hamlet is ready to kill his uncle but when he has the chance to do it he hesitates: The king is praying and for a medieval christ being killed in such a moment is necessarily followed by redemption for the murdered. Now Hamlet himself is in danger, because Claudius is trying to get rid of him. In the end the scene is covered with corpses: Ophelia, the girl who had been rejected by Hamlet, was drowned, her brother Laertes and Hamlet both died in a duel with rapiers and Claudius was killed by the dying Hamlet. Fortinbras, the prince of Norway, will now heir the throne of Denmark.
